The programme consists of plenary sessions, parallel sessions, and a closing session. The conference will last 3 days.

Plenary sessions

Each day will start with a plenary opening session, during which invited speakers outline the needs and open issues for the three main themes of the conference.

Parallel sessions

After the plenary opening sessions, the conference will be continued in parallel sessions. These sessions will be organized around themes. We will actively invite experts to chair and organize sessions on topics of their expertise. We will also send out an open invitation to potential participants to organize sessions on topics of their interest.

Excursions

Linked to two sessions, there are two excursions. You don't have to have followed the linked session, any participant of NCGG9 can join after having paid the € 25,- fee (incl. VAT).

Space Expo Noordwijk

In Noordwijk on the Dutch coast, ESA/ESTEC have a research facility. The museum and information centre next to this compound is the destination for the Satellite observations excursion.

The bustour will start at 15:00 and show you the typical Dutch landscape until you arrive at the Space Expo around 16:00. There, coffee and tea will be served and you will be told what happens in the satellite testing centre and how we use satellite data for GHG research. You’ll have the chance to visit the space expo with an English tour guide and have another drink be fore we return to Amsterdam.

Return time is estimated to be around 19:00.

Nauerna landfill

Just northwest of the Amsterdam harbour area, the Nauerna landfill is reaching it’s completion. This is the best documented landfill in the Netherlands when it comes to measurement based methane emission estimates. It is now turned into Nauerna park. On the way from Casa to the landfill you’ll see some other important methane emission sources, like the waste water treatment facility, the waste incineration site and the coal storages.

On the site Heijo Scharff from the Afvalzorg company that is operator on the Nauerna site will show us the location and the Afvalzorg headquarter building which is built on top of the landfill. We’ll explain how emission measurements were done at this location, and show the measurement van used for the latest experiments.

The bus will leave 15:40 towards the landfill and arrive there around 16:40 We will return to Casa at around 19:00.

Posters

Posters can be exhibited during the full length of the conference. The posters will be placed at strategic positions to ensure maximum exposure. Also, the last half hour of the lunch breaks on wednesday and thursday, will be dedicated time for NCGG9 participants to discuss the posters with the researchers. And if you want to, you can have one minute at the end of the plenary programme on wednesday, to draw attention to your poster. Posters are not yet mentioned in the time table, this will follow in a future version.

Closing session

During a plenary closing session the results will be summarized and conclusions drawn in an interactive way.
